What To Expect At Your St. George In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

Before you decide ont what window covering to buy, some companies, like Sunburst, send out a rep for an in-home consultation. By bringing samples to you, we can present how different shutters, blinds, and shades would match up to your windows. This conversation lets you understand your options and makes you feel confident in your final choice.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how can showing you different products at your home help you better choose the perfect window treatment? Every shutter and window treatment company may have different procedures for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will get during your Sunburst consultation.

Detailing A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Begin by arranging an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make it a point to show you different options for your preferred treatment. We will also show additional treatments, so you can feel confident that your choice matches your ideal.

During the actual appointment, we’ll sit down and discuss what you are looking for in a window treatment. We’ll cover issues like your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency needs, and we’ll discuss hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your representative will also ask about how your windows are used and what ambiance you are looking to acheive. And it’s fine if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, as we’ll show you multiple options.

That may require going through different products and compare each style against each other. Most customers need to explore a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or finding the perfect stain to match your color scheme. We’ll also demonstrate all the options available for the treatment, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once a decision is made, we’ll get the exact measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows in each room—even if you only plan to buy window treatments for some of your windows. We do this because a lot of our clients ask to get future products quickly. Finally, we will guide you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no hidden costs on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are sure that Sunburst will carry out compentent in-home consultation, there are some actions you should never see from any window treatment company. As they say, the quality of your consultation experience mirrors the quality of the window treatments.

Above all else, your rep should treat your home with respect. He or she should come to your house on time, ready to present, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your consultant should always bring product and company literature and pricing information.

In regards to pricing, you should expect a full written quote. Don’t accept a large pricing range, scribbled on a blank page or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing estimates before they take any window measurements. You should always know how much product and installation should cost. Be sure to to search for references and online reviews.
